Friday 10 May saw us celebrate Nurses' Day in my Trust - Oxford University Hospitals. This is a well attended event and celebrates nursing from all specialities in the Trust.
After collecting some ºÚÁÏÍø promotional supplies from another rep colleague, I set up the ºÚÁÏÍø stand in Tingewick Hall with lots of ºÚÁÏÍø literature, a few branded items and of course some celebration chocolates!
I was joined by two colleagues Donna-Sue Wright, ºÚÁÏÍø Officer, and Sally Bassett from the ºÚÁÏÍø Oxfordshire Branch for part of the day.
This was a great opportunity for us to meet and talk to staff about the ºÚÁÏÍø, discuss the benefits of having ºÚÁÏÍø membership and the support and training opportunities provided by the ºÚÁÏÍø, while learning more about our members, their areas of work and challenges they may be facing.
The stand was well attended throughout the day. We had new staff wanting to join the ºÚÁÏÍø, some seeking advice, needing ºÚÁÏÍø literature, and others who expressed an interest in becoming an ºÚÁÏÍø rep for either learning, safety or a steward.
Being an ºÚÁÏÍø steward is a very interesting and rewarding role. After completing your rep training you have a supervisor that works alongside you to review and discuss your cases. The role encompasses a wide variety of activities such as attending joint union committee meetings, trust meetings to represent our members' interests, and supporting members who may be experiencing difficulties with a range of issues, providing information, guidance and support.
With such a large organisation we need more reps to help support the workforce, so if you are passionate about supporting others in whatever way, speak to your local ºÚÁÏÍø reps or you can find more information online.
